We now sell a range of excellent ciders via our online store. If cider’s your thing then take a look at the new cider category here.
We currently stock 6 different ciders from two excellent cider producers – Gwatkin Cider and Gwynt y Ddraig. You can buy various mixed cases made up from each producer, and a great mixed case which includes all 6 ciders that we stock.
Gwatkin Yarlington Mill Cider (7.5%)
Champion of Britain in the CAMRA Cider Awards 2009! “Smooth and rich with a spirit aroma and taste that resonates with the taste buds to surprise and delight. Would be an excellent substitute for a dessert wine.’ The Yarlington Mill apple is a favourite with traditional cider makers because if its outstanding taste. It originates from deepest Somerset but is found growing throughout the cider makers kingdom. The well sized apples, which are red and yellow in colour, are ready to harvest in late November. The juice is slow to ferment, which produces a rich, red, medium cider. Medium cider, 7.5% Best Served Chilled
Gwatkin Kingston Black Cider (7.5%)
The Kingston Black apple is the most famous apple in the cider making world. Dating back centuries, the variety originated in Somerset, but by the 1800’s it had spread all over England and Wales. A favourite with the old farming communities and their traditional way of cider making; often kept for the vintage house cider and drunk on special occasions. There have been various new strains of this variety grown, but none to match the taste of the old. A dry cider, 7.5% Best Served Chilled
Gwatkin Golden Valley Perry (6.0%)
Golden Valley Perry takes its name from the small corner of Herefordshire where Perry has been made in the traditional way for centuries. Local pears are pressed, and the juice transfered into oak barrels, where it is left to mature naturally in the time honoured way. The Romantic Age of Steam and old-worlde agriculture may be long gone, but here at least the Golden Taste of Real Perry lives on.
Gwynt Y Ddraig Dabinett Welsh Cider (6.0%)
Made from a single variety of cider apple, Dabinett is a full bittersweet apple found in large quantities throughout many Welsh orchards. This apple produces a well-balanced bittersweet cider with a soft astringency and full body. A connoisseur’s cider that lends itself to the ‘New Age’ cider drinker.
Gwynt Y Ddraig Black Dragon Welsh Cider (6.5%)
Oak conditioned medium-dry cider. This special reserve cider has been hand crafted exclusively from cider apples grown by traditional methods in ageing orchards. The juice pressed from these apples is fermented and matured in oak barrels to produce a cider rich in colour, body and flavour with a fresh fruity aroma.
Gwynt Y Ddraig Gold Medal Cider (7.4%)
Oak conditioned farmhouse cider. The first Welsh cider producer to achieve a Gold medal.
CAMRA UK GOLD MEDAL CIDER 2004.

Ales By Mail is approaching the end of its first year in business. This time last year we were meeting brewers and trade representatives during the GBBF, whilst the finishing touches were being made to our website.
It has been an amazing year so far and is set to end on a high note with our sponsorship of the Real Ale in a Bottle bar at the Great British Beer Festival in a week or so.
We’ve come a long way in the last 12 months – met a lot of great brewers, drunk some amazing beers and had the chance to supply beer to many customers around the country.
We have had a lot of positive comments about our products and what we offer, but one subject that comes up frequently is a desire from our customers for recommendations on what they should try next.
With that in mind, we will shortly be announcing the launch of our Master Brewers’ Beer Club which will, we believe, give our customers a chance to sample each quarter a collection of quality beers selected by some of the most innovative, controversial, forward-thinking and successful brewers and breweries in the country.
We have already received confirmation from The Thornbridge Brewery, BrewDog, Moor Beer, Meantime and Crouch Vale Brewery and have made other invitations to leading Master Brewers. A choice of 11 beers will be made by the Master Brewer to form each quarter’s selection. Added to the selection will be a beer from the Master Brewer’s own stable of craft beers which exemplifies their skill and knowledge.
The club will be flexible and easy to subscribe to – you will have multiple options including a single quarter taster case or the full 4 quarter selection for which a discount will apply.
There will be some hidden gems in the selections from small emerging breweries which the Master Brewers have picked for greatness and, we hope, the selection from the Master Brewer’s own brewery will be something out of the ordinary which will top the other 11 he or she selects.
Visit this page: http://www.alesbymail.com/Blog/?p=305 to register your interest. Subscriptions will be limited and those who have expressed their interest will be given an opportunity to subscribe early.
